Anise Seeds

A sweet, mildly spicy flavor of licorice, tarragon, or fennel used in Middle Eastern, Italian, German, Indian, and Mexican cooking. It’s used to flavor drinks such as pastis and ouzo, added to baked goods, as a candy-coated end-of-meal refresher in India and to flavor milk in the Netherlands.
