Sumac

Bright red fruits that are ground to a coarse powder to sprinkle over babaghanoush, hummus as a garnish with zing! It has a tangy, citrusy sour-tart flavor similar to lemon juice. One of the ingredients in Lebanese Za'atar.

A variety of sumac grows wild here in Pennsylvania but when I tried to dry and grind it, I ended up with a handful of fuzzy stuff and some very hard annoying seeds. I'll stick to storebought.
