Nutmeg

A pungent fragrance with a warm, nutty, slightly sweet taste. Best freshly grated with a microplane. Great both in sweet baked goods and savory dishes. You might be surprised by all the dishes nutmeg is in.

Nutmeg loves sweet potatoes, winter squash, spinach, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. Any dish with a custard base.

Sauces that include nutmeg are Béchamel and Mornay but add a pinch to Sautéed Greens, too.

Savory spice blends that include nutmeg are Moroccan Ras el Hanout, Indian Garam Masalas, and Ethiopian Berbere.
