The flowers come in pink, lavender, or white and always comes in four petals whereas perennial garden phlox has five petals. The petals and young leaves have a mild bitter flavour. The flower buds are cooked and eaten like broccoli raab. add spicy flavors to fruit dishes and salads. Add a spicy garnish to fruit salads, cakes, and desserts.
